Job Description

About the Role

As a Senior Industrial Designer in the Product Development group, you will lead design projects at the intersection of human usability, commercial viability, and manufactured reality. Your solutions impact the full spectrum of new product introduction, from initial research and exploration to market launch. Reporting to the Industrial Design manager, you will join a talented team responsible for physical, graphic, and interactive design definition. You are supported by a fully staffed model shop, including metal fabrication, welding, 3D printing and assembly spaces. Our manufacturing lines are footsteps away from our design studios, promoting your ability to learn and enrich your work with real-world considerations as your products are built.

You should be cognizant of exercise and fitness practices and trends, and proactive in observing and researching users to inform and inspire your work. Intellectual curiosity, patience, and being comfortable with ambiguity will enhance your learning and ability to collaborate. Using our Design/Build/Test principles, you strive to transcend manufacturing processes in the pursuit of industrial design integrity. This is a perfect opportunity for seasoned designers who aspire to hands-on involvement across all phases of product development, and who are intrigued by the potential to shape the future of fitness.

  • Actively inform the design group and product development group of design and style trends in fitness, wellness, and other related industries.
  • Conduct user research both in informal "fly on the wall" observation scenarios and investigative, human factors studies, to inform the project team and create viable concepts.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Precor visual brand expression in the overall product portfolio.
  • Pursue active learning of our various manufacturing methods and principles from engineering and operations peers. Collaborate with manufacturing supplier engineers at domestic and international sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design (BA, BS, BID).
  • 5+ years of work experience in a design role; including 2+ years experience with SolidWorks, Keyshot, Adobe Creative Cloud (PS, AI, ID), and digital sketching.
  • CMF definition experience with the consistent application of visual brand attributes.
  • Demonstrable experience with manufacturing production processes including injection molding, welding, stamping, extrusions, metal forming, and product graphics application; foundational understanding of when to apply certain processes including those to achieve sustainability goals.
  • Accurate and evocative sketch skills as a means of problem solving and communication.
  • Fundamental understanding of usability study goals and research processes.
  • Fluency with 3D printing, fabrication shop experience, interaction experience prototyping as means of sharing product concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to present ideas, thoughts, and product concepts to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and be accountable for multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with PC Windows environment and MS Office products.
