The Denver Public Library (DPL) is hiring a Night Shift Security Officer to work at the Central Library in downtown Denver to help create positive experiences for library customers by maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers and staff. The position includes on the job training with certification in First Aid, CPR, AED usage, Narcan usage, defensive tactics, and verbal de-escalation training. The Security Department operates 24/7, and this position works night shifts between 10:30PM - 7AM or 12:00AM to 8:30AM with a 12% shift differential bonus. The role requires solid customer service skills, knowledge of safety and security in public settings, emergency procedures, and the ability to handle stressful situations positively, including trauma, mental illness, and substance abuse. Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and problem-solving abilities. Responsibilities include completing reports, passing physical and mental fitness exams, and obtaining an unarmed security guard license issued by the City and County of Denver. Preferred experience includes Trauma Informed Care or Mental Health First Aid and one year of security or loss prevention experience. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of security experience, a valid Driver’s License, an Unarmed Business Guard License, and current first aid and CPR certification. Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of employment.
