Job Description

OBJECTIVE:

Lone Star Circle of Care is seeking a dedicated dermatologist to establish specialty care servicing both our federally qualified health center (FQHC) patients and the broader community. The ideal candidate brings expertise in outpatient diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions while embracing a mission-driven, patient-centric approach to care.

Physicians are responsible for upholding the values and mission statement of LSCC and will conduct themselves as senior level, full time professional employees of the organization. Under the direction of the Medical Director, delivers primary care commensurate with training to patients of LSCC. Delivers care appropriate for an outpatient, primary care community health center with multicultural, multilingual patient population .

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Daily Duties:

  1. Examines, diagnoses, treats and/or refers patients assigned to physician’s panel, on an outpatient basis.
  2. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic dermatologic conditions, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, autoimmune skin disorders, and complex dermatologic diseases.
  3. Perform full-body skin exams, mole evaluations, and skin cancer screenings, with an emphasis on early detection and prevention.
  4. Provide basic dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, cryotherapy, excisions, electrosurgery, intralesional injections, and cyst removal.
  5. Manage complex cases requiring systemic therapies, including biologics, immunosuppressants, and oral retinoids.
  6. Work closely with primary care providers, behavioral health, and social services teams to co-manage patients with dermatologic conditions linked to chronic diseases such as diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and HIV.
  7. Develop referral pathways for complex dermatologic cases requiring advanced procedures, Mohs surgery, or dermatopathology services. Patients requesting procedures performed primarily for cosmesis may also be referred.
  8. Contribute to the development of a dermatology procedural clinic, ensuring safe and efficient workflows for minor surgeries.
  9. Provide teledermatology consultations to expand access to dermatologic care for patients in remote or underserved areas.
  10. May participate in clinical research
  11. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary care programs to enhance dermatology service delivery.
  12. Complete medical charts in a timely manner after each visit in the electronic medical records system
  13. All other duties or responsibilities as assigned by Medical Director

Coaching/Training:

  1. May provide in-service trainings for staff in primary care management of endocrine conditions
  2. Occasionally participate in a high-quality educational experience for medical students, residents and other individuals in a training role

Operations:

  1. Provide quality medical care according to standards established by LSCC
  2. Assist and participates in internal quality control audits
  3. Supervises nurses, medical assistants and lab personnel in area of specific support services for patient care delivery
  4. Fulfill established guidelines set in place for provider encounter levels
  5. Actively monitor and engaged in hitting productivity, patient satisfaction, and clinical quality metrics
  6. Meet or exceed budgeted provider encounter targets
  7. Attend internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and participate on task forces or committees, when necessary and as required

Compliance:

  1. Perform all dutie s and services in full compliance with LSCC’s Quality Standards
  2. Achieve and maintain LSCC Core Clinical Competencies
  3. Physician must maintain MOC per ABIM/AOBIM guidelines and board certification while at LSCC.
  4. Apply for and sustain faculty appointment at Texas A&M University or other institutions as required
  5. Physician will maintain all credentialing and licensing per LSCC policy
  6. Perform required monthly peer audits, if required
  7. If supervising collaborating nurse practitioner(s)/physician assistant(s) in the specialty, have monthly meetings with these advanced practice providers
  8. Maintain competencies, LMS trainings, BLS (AHA) as current

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine and specialty care (Dermatology) commensurate with his/her training
    1. Expertise in diagnosing and managing acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, infectious skin diseases, autoimmune skin disorders, and pigmentary disorders.
    2. Knowledge of cutaneous oncology, risk factors, screening guidelines, and early detection strategies for melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma.
    3. Pharmacologic intervention: Knowledge of topical treatments, biologics, immunosuppressants, and oral retinoids, including side effects and monitoring requirements.
    4. Awareness of remote dermatology consult models, image-based triage, and integration of telehealth into primary care settings.
    5. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS-related skin conditions, cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease, and skin disorders in diverse ethnic populations
  2. Procedures: Competency in performing biopsies, cryotherapy, simple excisions, electrosurgery, and intralesional injections.
  3. Proficiency with electronic health records, digital dermatology imaging, and teledermatology platforms.
  4. Generates and/or recommends medical protocols to govern the delivery of Dermatology care throughout the Center that are consistent with standards of care.
  5. Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes or workflows.
  6. Ability to collaborate effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, and English-speaking abilities
  7. Ability to deal effectively with patients, medical staff, administration and the public
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  9. Ability to recognize and understand the public health, social, and economic factors which impact the overall health of LSCC patients
  10. Ability to support LSCC mission and readily serve its patient population
  11. Maintain a professional manner and appearance that contributes to the professional image presented to individuals within and outside of LSCC
  12. Ability to work independently with a high level of self-motivation
  13. Ability to work in and support electronic health records environment
